Consultation
We recommend a wellness examination for your pet at least once per year. We understand that the health of your pet is very important to you, as it is to us, and we're here to ensure they receive the best possible care. An animal displaying obvious symptoms can be a relatively easy diagnosis, but there are many other conditions that remain seemingly asymptomatic for some time. The main objective on the consultation is to examine, discover and treat ailments before symptoms, become severe or prevent them before they arise. We encourage to bring your pets in for the yearly immunisations as it is a quick and inherently painless process.
We also encourage you to schedule a check up for newly acquired pets which will reassure you of their health and a starting point for their medical records.
Pharmacy
We maintain a well stocked range of Veterinary Pharmaceuticals on site which enables us to get your pet back to full health quickly Our team of experienced pharmacist and vet nurses are here to provide optimal care for your pets, dispense and counsel on veterinary medicines.
Owners requiring repeat prescription medications are advised to call ahead so, we can prepare the medication and have it waiting to avoid delays.
Pets on long term medication require regular examinations, at least 6 monthly by law, to ensure the medication is still Indicated and that they are free of potential side effects.
Immunisation & Parasite Control
Keeping your pets safe from diseases that cause pathogens is one of the most important components of sound animal healthcare. These infectious agents can not only affect the well being of your pet, but some are even transmittable to humans. We strongly recommend annual vaccinations to help protect your pets as well as the rest of your family from numerous diseases and we also offer heartworm testing, internal parasite treatment and flea,t ick and heartworm perventatives.
Speying & Neutering
Here at the Waverley Gardens Vet, we encourage our clients to have their pets speyed and neutered in an effort to help control the companion animal population as well as provide your pet with long term health benefits. Approximately 2.7 million cats and dogs are killed every year in Australia because shelters are too full and there aren't enough adoptive homes. With a united effort starting at the individual and community level, we can reverse this trend and create a brighter future or the general animal population. Speying and neutering has life long behavioural and health benefits and we recommend doing it as early as 5 months old for both cats and dogs, we would be happy to advise you on a more specific time frame that works conveniently with your schedule.
Microchipping
Should you pet ever become lost, microchipping installations significantly increases the likelihood of your pets safely returning home. The process involves a quick, relatively painless injection of a microchip between the animals shoulder blades. It is then digitally linked with the owners address and contact information. We use one of the highest performers in the field and ensures the chip stays in place.
Dental Cleaning
Vitally healthy gums are extremely important for your pet. Tartar build up and plaque on your pets teeth can lead to serious, even life threatening health problems. It is highly recommended that you brush your pets teeth regularly to keep them in top condition, but we also understand that this can be difficult in general and nearly impossible with some animals.
Thus, we offer our clients and their pets a complete array of veterinary dental care services, including dental cleanings, tooth extractions and other forms of oral surgery. Most clients like to schedule dental cleanings annually which can be enough for some pets, but not for others.
We recommend scheduling dental work whenever you notice obvious signs of poor oral health such as Weight loss, constant bad breath, decrease in appetite, infected gums, heavily stained teeth, broken or missing teeth, blood in saliva, excessive drooling, and lumps around the gums. We conduct a pre anesthetic check prior to procedures and most dental work does not require and extended stay for your pet so will be ready to pick up with a shiny new smile.
